Millions of people across the world cannot access education for one simple reason: poverty.

However, education would help them escape poverty – by giving them the chance of a better job – and the impact of this would carry on down the generations.

Education is not simply important because it can be a means to a good job. In Islam, five elements are needed in order to enjoy human dignity. They are faith, life, intellect, posterity and wealth.

The first revelation of the Qur’an to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) required him to “Read in the name of the Lord… who taught man through the use of pen what he did not know.” (al-Alaq, 96: 1, 4, 5).

The Prophet (PBUH) made it obligatory for every Muslim man and woman to seek knowledge.
