Islamic Relief distributes food in Italy for the first time.
Islamic Relief has been distributing aid all over the world this Ramadan, so far food packs have been delivered to poor and needy people in 36 countries. For Islamic Relief Italy (IR Italy) this is the first time they have provided food packs inside their country.
Ramadan is not only about spirituality and abstinence, it is also about taking action and physically doing good deeds. IR Italy has been working hard to fill the void of sustenance that affects many people throughout the country. Our Country Director, Rachid Jamal, notes that: “Italy is one of the most affected European countries with regards to the refugee crisis. This has worsened an already difficult economic situation.”
This Ramadan the aim is to distribute 1,000 food packs to needy people all over north Italy. The food packs will contain foods from Italian and Arabic cuisines. Essentials like pasta, rice, oil, beans, tuna, and corn have been included in the food packs so the recipients will have enough for an iftar meal.
Distributing food is a simple and important gesture, not only does it fill the void on an empty table, it also reduces the loneliness of those in need. Rachid informs us that it is:
“thanks to our generous partners, donors, dedicated staff and volunteers we have been able to respond on a larger scale than normal.”
IR Italy is helping Muslims and non-Muslims, young and old, families and individuals, citizens, migrants and refugees. Islamic Relief helps people from all backgrounds regardless of ethnicity, religion, or nationality.
