As Iraq faces its worst humanitarian crisis this decade, Islamic Relief is providing essential aid to some of the most vulnerable families.
Hundreds have been killed in the fighting engulfing communities in Iraq. In Mosul alone, around 500,000 people fled fighting which erupted last week. Meanwhile, a six-month conflict in the western governorate of Anbar has forced tens of thousands from their home.
Islamic Relief is supporting 150 families that are currently seeking safety in Khazir camp, near Irbil. The food parcels contained staples such as bread, cheese, meat and canned vegetables. Families also received blankets, mattresses and pillows as well as bottled water.
We continue to assist the camp’s most vulnerable families through our $200,000 emergency operation.
Many people have since returned to their homes. In Mosul, they suffer a shortage of drinking water, food and electricity, as vital infrastructure was destroyed in the conflict. Schools and government offices largely remain closed.
In Anbar, close to half-a-million people have this year been displaced by ongoing conflict, according to the UN. Having lost their homes and livelihoods, many face extreme hardship with no end to the violence yet in sight.
Islamic Relief is calling for urgent support for its emergency response to the crisis in Iraq. Please donate to our Iraq Emergency appeal today.
