God says in the Qur’an (4:135):
“O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even though it be against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, be they rich or poor, Allah is a Better Protector to both (than you)”
Campaigning is an important part of Islamic Relief’s work: we aim to contribute to social, economic, cultural and political change by being at the heart of decision making we want to see a world where women, men and children live in dignity and are free from poverty so that they can enjoy their God given rights.
We are inspired by Islamic teachings on the need to speak out about injustice. Through campaigning, we make sure our voice and the voices of those people we support are heard by those with the power to make a difference.
By influencing decision-makers and by mobilising communities to take action to achieve positive change, our campaigning contributes to efforts to end poverty and suffering.
HOW WE CAMPAIGN
We are campaigning for immediate action on some of the most urgent issues facing the world.
Protecting the planet and its people from the impacts of climate change is one of the three top priorities for Islamic Relief. We campaign to reduce emissions, promote sustainable living and protect the world’s most vulnerable people. We are clear that bold action on climate change is needed now.
We are standing up for gender justice. Through our campaigning work, we seek to stamp out gender-based violence such as domestic abuse, female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C), and early and forced marriage. We also engage women and girls in programmes that tackle the economic, social and cultural barriers which stop them from reaching their full potential.
Refugees and Displaced People
Ensuring the rights of refugees and displaced people are protected is also a key campaign area. We draw attention to the challenges faced by people forced from their homes and urge governments to recognise their rights, meet their needs and treat them with dignity.
