Rabha Hadi lives in conflict-worn Baghdad, where she makes a small living from sewing.
The money is not enough to sustain her family, which includes her disabled son Ra’ed and seven children. Ra’ed, 35, contributes by selling roses on the street, but often the family goes hungry.
“It is difficult to buy meat because cost of it is too high and even if we managed to find enough money for one kilogramme, that would not be enough for the whole family,” the 57-year-old said.
“We can only buy the basics.”
Last year, Islamic Relief distributed meat to Rabha and her family. The Qurbani meat pack we gave to Rabha was one of nearly 700,000 we distributed last year.
Rabha, a widow, depends on the meat packs from Islamic Relief to give her family essential iron and protein.
“Most of the children are anaemic and suffer from malnutrition,” she said.
“The meat pack from Islamic Relief helped us eat meat on the first day of Eid al Adha.”
Last year, because of generosity from Islamic Relief donors, Rabha and her family of 14 enjoyed kubba, which are meat dumplings fried in oil or cooked in a stew.
“It brought us such joy and happiness,” she said.
“I thank God to be linked to Islamic Relief and its donors. It has been like Edyah [the money given to children at Eid] for my family.”
Give your Qurbani through Islamic Relief this year, and help families like Rabha’s enjoy Eid.
