Ramadan in Kenya. Peter Caton for Islamic Relief

Islamic Relief worked with photographer Peter Caton and the Guardian to show how Muslims in drought-stricken parts of Kenya are marking the holy month of Ramadan this year.

Farmers like Mama Shakila are finding it hard to cope with a worsening drought and rising food prices, and her family is one of many struggling to find food for Iftar at the end of the daily fast. Mohammed Omar, 22, says: ‘In the last Ramadan we had a lot of green vegetables, but this Ramadan this place is dry; it is like a desert. Some people don’t even have food to eat.”
