It has come to our attention that Islamic Relief has been subject to a recent email scam.
A number of emails are circulating claiming that Islamic Relief Netherlands is giving out €100 million to 80 international recipients for business and economic development and poverty reduction projects.
The email claims that the recipient has been chosen by random and that they should get in contact with the email correspondent.
This is a fraudulent email which has not been sent by any member of the Islamic Relief family.
Islamic Relief would like to state that we do not give grants on a random basis as described in the email. We operate using detailed policies and procedures that identify beneficiaries according to need. Each of our projects are only undertaken after a project proposal has been prepared, which is then subject to careful scrutiny before it is approved.
All projects fulfill the objectives of the charity which are: ‘To alleviate human suffering, provide relief from poverty, facilitate education, promote sustainable socio-economic development, and elevate the standard of living for those in need, regardless of their race, gender or religious background, all as a practical manifestation and application of the humanitarian values inspired by the Islamic faith.’
Islamic Relief does not invite unknown recipients to contact us and does not give cash donations in the way described in the email. If you receive any unsolicited e-mails which look suspicious, please treat them with caution and do not engage in correspondence with the emailer.
If you have received one of these emails or would like further assistance please contact us at [email protected] including a copy of the message received.
