Ramadan Kareem to Muslims across the globe!
As we aim to draw closer to Allah this Ramadan, let us not forget the importance of supporting vulnerable families who do not know where their next meal is coming from. We Are One family. We must feel the pain of those struggling around the world as if it is our own.
At the beginning of this blessed month, let’s reflect on the impact our global Ramadan food programme had around the globe in 2020.
With your generosity we distributed nearly 165,000 food packs in 30 countries in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Europe. This freed over 934,000 people from the worry of where their next meal would come from.
Many were supported by Islamic Relief’s humanitarian emergency programmes. Among them were families left in dire straits by disasters and the Covid-19 pandemic. The food parcels meant they had food with which to start and end their fast.
Our staff worked tirelessly to adapt our food distributions in light of the pandemic. At food distribution points, we took steps to avoid large groups and made sure that social distancing and hygiene measures were in place. For particular vulnerable families, we worked with national postal services to deliver food parcels to their doorsteps.
This year, we will continue to do all we can to ensure the safety of our staff and the communities we serve.
Among those we helped last year was Laila from Afghanistan. With no source of income, she had no way to feed her 6 children. This, combined with rising food prices in Afghanistan meant that the family lived through extremely difficult days, often going to sleep hungry.
“Most of the time we don’t have enough food to eat, and my children become sick. However, we don’t have the money to take them to the doctor… my small children cry for food and sometimes I have to force them to beg for food so they don’t starve,” says Laila.
Islamic Relief provided the family with a food parcel containing staple items such as rice, oil and bread, helping to ease Laila’s burden during the holy month.
“This support helps to solve our needs. The holy month of Ramadan passes comfortably, and my children can enjoy the blessings of Ramadan,” she says.
Islamic Relief Worldwide and the many thousands of people we reach would like to thank all our supporters for their generosity.
Together, we have helped to transform people’s Ramadan all over the world. We truly show our brothers and sisters across the globe that We Are One.
With your generosity, Islamic Relief will continue to reach those most in need this Ramadan, distributing food safely to some of the world’s most vulnerable people. Feel their pain. Donate now.
