World Humanitarian Day (WHD) is held every year on 19 August to pay tribute to aid workers who risk their lives in humanitarian service, and to rally support for people affected by crises around the world.
Islamic Relief staff work in some of the most challenging and dangerous situations in the world. Millions of civilians are affected by armed conflict every day. Food, water, shelter and safety are considered to the basic necessities of life and they are denied to millions. Many of these people are forced to flee their homes and leave behind everything they have ever known.
Men, women and children have been abused, humiliated, and killed. Our aid workers deliver aid and assistance to vulnerable people and they too are targeted, treated as threats and prevented from providing help to those in need.
